I’m a Web Designer / Front End Web Developer, and Visual Artist and I live on Vancouver Island B.C. I specialize in web design and front end development. I love Wordpress, HTML, CSS, JS, designing, accessibility, and digital and traditional illustration.
In 2009 I graduated with honours from the two year Interactive Design program at Capilano University. I worked in the industry as a Web Designer / Developer for a number of years then over time moved into other industries.
Shuttle along to 2021 and I have recently finished a nine month long Front End Development Program which includes my Techdegree certificate in Front End Development through Treehouse Learning where I exceeded expectations in all of my projects.
I am happy to say I am up to speed with so many great tools to make beautiful and functional websites and applications! The remainder of my training has included Wordpress development (did I say I love WordPress?), principles in usability, and accessibility guidelines (because we have to make sure everyone can use, and enjoy, the web and all it has to offer).
I absolutely love learning and researching new tools and techniques. I also enjoy teaching others and I want to find more ways to encorporate teaching into my career experience in both development and design, as well as in the arts. I think a blog might be calling me.
I have a lineup of courses I can’t wait to dig into on advanced Wordpress development, e-commerce platforms and customization including Woocommerce, UI & UX, Javascript, advanced Flexbox and CSS Grid layout techniques, Graphic Design (because I am crazy about finding ways to transfer print layout design to digital), Adobe InDesign.
When I’m not designing you will find me creating fine art, taking walks with my camera, playing music (I am a Jazz/Blues guitarist), learning to play piano, cycling, and spending time with family and my pet hamster Waffles. I also have to include tea and chocolate. Yum!

This interactive application is one of my heavier Javascript projects and I'm proud of it. Learning to work more with the DOM, manipulating data, using arrays and functions, CSS transitions and more all worked hand in hand to get this project going and made it unique.

Utilizing an API for the employee data was a challenge but rewarding. The use of a modal window for employee information and with the ability to move back and forth between employees within the modal increases the functionality of this application. Overall, interacting with the API was a useful experience.

There are so many charts to see here. You can really enjoy gathering the data you need all in one place. The use of SVG's and the Chart Javascript library helped to make this project shine. Custom alert notifications, functioning charts, and my first forray into using local storage to save settings.

This was my final project for unit 9 to complete my Techdegree with Treehouse Learning. As with all of my projects in this course I approached it with a mobile first mentality. I utilized a Javascript plugin for the various body animations.

With a Javascript powered custom search filter you are bound to find the images you need quickly and efficiently. The site implements a Javascript lightbox plugin, and CSS Grid for the layout structure without the use of media queries.
